ANSWERS
How much does a wheel weigh? How big is the lip?
We recently added a web page with all the dimensions and weights of our wheels. Axis Wheels Weights and Lips will tell you the diameter, width, net weight, shipping weight and lip depth of every Axis Wheel.
QUESTIONS
How do I take care of my Axis wheels?
Axis recommends frequent cleaning of your wheels, ideally at least once a week your wheels should be washed. The brake dust on your wheels combine with time and heat can slowly ruin the finish of your Axis wheels. We recommend washing your wheels with luke warm water when the wheel is cool, never spray cold water on a wheel that is hot to the touch, the sudden change in temperature could damage the finish of your wheels. We recommend mild soap and water as the ideal way of washing your wheels. Products such as
Meguiars Gold Class wheel cleaner, Hot Rims / Cool Care wheel cleaners
, Meguiars Hi-Tech Wheel Cleaners, and Wheel cleaners from
Mothers
are approved to be used on all Axis wheels.
QUESTIONS
What are staggered wheels?
A popular trend is coming back for both cars and trucks is called "staggered" or "staggering". Staggering wheels involves using wheels of different width and/or diameter on the front and rear of the vehicle for a more stunning or aggressive look. This can also allow for a wider tire on the rear depending on the car. Axis even went a step further with their new Maxis Lip, which allows the staggered look on cars that can't take a wider wheel in the rear. Already popular with the Volkswagen, Acura, Honda, Scion and the Audi crowds the Maxis lip is going to bring the staggered look back in a very big way. Before you jump in with both feet and order a set of staggered wheels, there are some things to consider. One is fitment, as not all cars can take a larger wheel and tire combo in back. Even our Maxis Lip needs to have a car with small enough calipers on the rear to fit. Secondly is proper tire rotation. Instead of being able to rotate front to rear and vice-versa, you wil have to rotate left to right, and if your tires are directional, you will have to get them unmounted and re-mounted on the other side. Not impossible, just a little more costly (who said it's easy to be beautiful?).
QUESTIONS
Will installing larger wheels give me a rougher rider?
No, not necessarily. Generally a larger wheel diameter results in a shorter side wall height. A shorter side wall height may give you a lesser amount to "cushion" to ride on, hence a possible rougher ride. However with today's technology, many of the newer tires ride much better than the tires design a decade ago with taller side wall.
QUESTIONS
What is the best way to tighten my lugs and how much should I torque them?
What is the best way to tighten my lugs and how much should I torque it?
Tighten lug nuts of bolts in a progressive criss-cross pattern. Impact wrench are not recommended due to the possibility of irregular or overtightening. Owner's manual recommended torque specification should be followed. If not available, please refer to the following torque guide:
12mm Stud. Dia. 70-80ft/lbs
14mm Stud. Dia. 85-95ft/lbs
7/16" Stud. Dia. 55-65ft/lbs
1/2" Stud. Dia. 75-85ft/lbs
9/16" Stud. Dia. 95-115ft/lbs
If you're not sure, call us and we'll tell you what to torque the wheels to.
The installer must instruct the customer to re-torque or return immediately after 25 miles, 100 miles maximum, so installer can re-torque to proper specifications.
